Child Modelling Agencies: Value for or Waste of Money?

Modelling is an industry riddled with controversy. From criticism about the nature of modelling to disputes about body image, it seems that modelling is the one topic that never fails to split opinion. Many people believe that modelling is a terrible industry which serves little purpose other than to boost the egos of self-centered individuals. Others, however, see the important role that modelling plays in the world of advertising. No matter what you think. it is likely that you will have an opinion on the matter.

Child modelling has come to the forefront in recent years, and with that has come criticism of child modelling agencies. Modelling agencies as a whole, in fact, are regularly the subject of discussion with many people accusing them of being little more than thieves. This is partly as a result of those rogue people who pose as agencies in order to embezzle money from innocent people and families. It can be hard to avoid these types of agency at times, but if you use your common sense and remain reluctant to part with any money prior to signing a contract, you can normally avoid falling for these scams.

So are child modelling agencies good value for money, or are they simply taking people's money and doing very little in return?

The short answer is no. A famous phrase in the context of job hunting is that "it is not what you know, but who you know". Perhaps unsurprisingly, the same applies to modelling. Advertisers are likely to recruit the stars of their campaigns in one of two ways. They will either use the son or daughter of a friend or family member, or they will go through child modelling agencies. Most, of course, choose the latter option as this gives them the opportunity to search through hundreds of potential models.

Child modeling agency Singapore act as the middlemen between models and employers. There are simply too many potential candidates for the advertiser to try and select someone by themselves. They will thus use an agency whereby all potential candidates are compiled together in order for them to choose the perfect model. Advertisers will have access to the agency's books and will be able to look at all the models which fit their criteria and choose the one or ones which fit the specification they are looking for. If they went out searching for models without the help of child modelling agencies, it would be a lot more difficult, take much more time, and may not return the same results as it otherwise would.

Child modelling agencies are criticised as they will either ask clients for a joining fee and/or take a percentage of each payment their clients receive. This may seem as a fairly hefty price to pay, given that it is you or your child has to do the majority of the work. It is important to remember, however, that they must make money somehow, and, more importantly, they are likely to do a lot of work in order to ensure that as many employers as possible go through the agency, thus increasing the chances that your son or daughter will be selected for an advert or to be their model. It might seem like an expensive price to pay at times, but without child modelling agencies, the chances of your son or daughter getting modelling jobs would be much lower than they are.
